Internal martial arts are the roots of kung fu. They teach how to cultivate the body as a vessel that operates at its highest potential. This class series at the Philosophical Research Society will teach bases for the internal martial art practice called Baguazhang.
Baguazhang, the most mystical of the internal martial art systems, applies Chinese philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine to a high level martial movement practice. It harnesses wisdom from Taoist and Buddhist principles dating back to the founder of Shaolin Kung Fu and Zen Buddhism. The practice strengthens the body as a whole and focuses on tendons, joints and fascia. It is a powerful tool that combats any type of emotional and body ailments because it teaches how to fight with the spirit.
This is an introductory theory and practice based instruction. It is possible to come into the class without having attending previous ones. Context for the practice, including Chinese medicine bases will be provided as well as a presentation of the lineages and the instructor.
New students are welcome, no experience is necessary, sessions are tailored to the group. Adults of all ages are welcome including those with movement limitations. Everyone can benefit from the teachings.
*The upcoming sessions will teach theoretical and practical bases of internal martial arts starting with a five element standing posture series in addition to some movement fascia stretches and drills. To continue with the series follow Yunuen on the PRS Wellness page. Private sessions are also offered.
